Effectively, except very early 1984 Macintoshes, they all used HFS or HFS partitions to store their files (and their resource forks) all the way up to Mac OS X 10.13 High Sierra which shifted away from HFS in favor of APFS.If you have time to lose, then do it and see your expanded files destroyed, stripped of their resource fork, rendered totally useless.Everything on MR should be expandable using Stuffit Expander 5.5.It supports many compression formats such as.sit,.bin,.hqx and.zip.
Sitx Mac OS X 10Stuffit Expander 4 was superseded by Stuffit Expander 5 in the mid 90s. Since Stuffit Expander 5.5 requires Mac OS 7.5 or later, Stuffit Expander 4 remains the best option for Mac OS 7.0 and 7.1 environments. Sitx Free Stuffit ExpanderI hear complaints of file corruption messages and must advise folks to get the current free Stuffit Expander (and I re-send their files in ZIP format). Its a free app available from the App Store and several other Web sites, and it installs quickly. Since Mac OS X includes an Archive utility, the real reason users would want a supplemental tool is for RAR and other archives not supported by the included Archive app. Unfortunately, because of these problems opening RAR files, we uninstalled this app. Need security Destinations uses strong AES 256-bit encryption. Destinations combines DropStuff and StuffIt Expander into one powerful tool. Its an expansion tool that supports nearly any file type you download from the Internet or receive as an attachment. Destinations can create Apple Disk Images (.dmg), Zip (.zip), StuffIt X (.sitx), compressed Tar archives (.tbz2) and can upload and share files through our SendStuffNow file hosting service, your MobileMe iDisk, or FTP server. Tailor your Destinations tiles: Choose a destination, a compression format with or without encryption, and notification option. Just set it once. Destinations is the newest member of the StuffIt Family for Macintosh, which includes free StuffIt Expander 2011, StuffIt 2011 and StuffIt Deluxe 2011. Successive upgrades have added fluff rather than any compelling reason to buy. Ask yourself, what will I do, on a day-to-day basis, with this software, that makes it worth the price.
